What older neighborhoods have under the ground, how each old pipe fails and what replacing it involves.
Homes built decades ago often have sewer laterals made of clay tile, cast iron or a tar-and-fiber pipe known as Orangeburg. Each was a fine product in its time. Each has weaknesses that show up as roots, cracks, sags and collapse as the years pass.
Clay tile has many short joints that let roots in. Cast iron rusts from the inside and can scale until the pipe clogs. Orangeburg softens and deforms over time and can collapse completely. A camera inspection tells you which you have and how bad it is, and replacement with PVC or HDPE removes the problem.
