Propane Line Trenching and Installation

Trenches, pads and bedding for underground propane lines from the tank to the house, coordinated with your propane supplier.

Many rural and suburban homes rely on propane. The tank sits on a pad some distance from the house, and a buried line carries the gas to the meter or regulator at the wall. That line needs a straight trench, a clean bed and a route that avoids driveways and other utilities.

We prepare the pad for the tank, dig the route to the house and keep the trench open for the propane supplier or a qualified gas fitter to install and test the line. After inspection, we backfill and restore the lawn. Pipe installation, tank setting and connection stay with the supplier or the qualified contractor.

Tank location rules

Tanks must sit at set distances from buildings, property lines and openings. Your supplier gives the layout, and we prepare the pad and route to match.

A firm pad

A tank on soft ground can settle and strain its connections. We compact the base and build a level pad of the size the supplier specifies.

Protect the route

The buried line is easy to forget until it is struck. Warning tape and a route record protect the investment and the next digger.

Tank placement rules

Tank distances from buildings, property lines and openings are set by code and the supplier. Planning the location carefully before trenching saves moving anything later.

Questions

Propane Lines FAQ

Do you set the propane tank?

The supplier sets the tank. We prepare the pad and trench so the supplier can install quickly.

Who tests the line?

A qualified gas fitter or the supplier pressure tests the line. We keep the trench open until they finish.

Can propane feed a standby generator?

Yes. We trench to the generator pad as well, with the supplier and installer.

How far can the tank be from the house?

Distance affects pipe size and cost, and rules set minimums. Your supplier advises, and we dig the route.

How far from the house does a propane tank sit?

Required distances depend on tank size and local rules. Your supplier gives the exact layout.
